Rare Boxed Second Version of the Famed Meek Model No.44 Hand Made German Silver Trout Reel. The Meek No.44 reel is thought to have been introduced late in 1899, with the introduction of the first model German silver, single action model. This second version has a 2 1/4" diameter and 1" wide spool with early "flat back", with features that include a finely beaded click switch and sculpted top and foot pillars. The counter balanced handle is straight, with an ivory grasp, plain counter balance and knurled handle screw. The side plates each have a single band of fine knurling on the rim. Marked on the rear plate "B.F. Meek & Sons Louisville, KY - No.44". With serial number 2544 marked on the underside of the full length foot, in excellent plus condition, with only slight signs of screw head use on the foot screws. The rare box, with retailer "Von Lengerke & Antoine" marked guarantee card dated February 17, 1914 inside, has quill pen inked matching numbers to this reel, with completely intact paper end label. With one small tear to the lid, solid corners and light surface rubs, in great condition, and with the original chamois reel bag.
