Hubert, Joseph – Salmon - Salmon with a Chapter on Iceland – 1979. Limited edition, number 74 of 100 copies. Only 90 copies were offered for sale, of those, 10 copies for dignitaries and presentation, #1 to the President of Iceland, #2 to H.R.H. Prince Charles, #3 to Mrs. Eisenhower for the Presidential Library, etc. Rare, signed by the author on the colophon with blue seal and feather. Includes a Salmon Floirin 2 shilling coin embedded in the interior back cover. Elaborate dark blue calf leather with gilt decoration, flags of Iceland, US and Great Britain inlaid on back cover. Eight fold out maps, many full color photos (10 of salmon flies), 6 illustrations, 2 of Icelandic rivers, 14 black and white illustrations by Sandstrom. In as new condition with fine rounded gray linen slipcase. Accompanied by a matching number 16" x 20" lithograph, signed by the illustrator, provided to the first 38 purchasers of the book. Also, original prospectus laid in.
A fly fisherman throughout his life, Robert Blockoff had been fascinated by the sport from a young age. By extension in the 1970's his attention turned to collecting angling books. This and 97 other lots represent this pursuit. His collection is comprised of both American and English titles with a focus on salmon fishing, having taken a significant turn when he purchased Jones' Guide to Norway from the important G-Albert Petit Collection.
