Gulfcoast Coin & Jewelry
In the early 1970’s Mike Joyce and his partner, college students at the time, began buying and selling coins in Tampa Florida. From these humble beginnings Gulfcoast Coin & Jewelry was established in Fort Myers in 1975. Initially GCCJ dealt with rare coins, primarily key date coins, silver dollars, type coins and U. S. gold coins. GCCJ also sold all U. S. Mint products including proof sets, mint sets, stamps and paper money.
At the end of the 70’s gold, silver and platinum bullion became very popular – in large part due to the Hunt Brothers aggressive speculation. Gold hit $850, silver hit $50 and platinum reached $950! As the precious metals business boomed GCCJ became, and continues to be, a major bullion dealer in S. A. Kruggerrands, Canadian Maples Leafs, Austrian 100 Cronas, Mexican 50 Pesos, Chinese Pandas, American Gold Eagles, platinum nobles, platinum American Eagles, and platinum bars. We also make markets in silver bullion: U. S. 90% silver coin, 40% silver coin, 100 oz. bars, 10 oz. bars and 1 oz. bars, silver American Eagles, Franklin Mint silver, sterling flatware and war nickels.
As the coin and precious metals business expanded, GCCJ entered the gemology, horology, and high-end collectibles markets with items such as Lladro, Hummel, Goebel, Lalique, Waterford, Baccarat crystal, fine china and porcelain such as Limoges, B&G, Royal Copenhagen, Royal Doulton, as well as autographs and original fine art such as bronzes and oils.
Gulfcoast maintains a large inventory of diamonds – both loose and mounted, and specializes in certified stones, graded by the prestigious gem labs - EGL (European Gem Lab) or GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Due to our long-standing reputation as serious dealers in gems, and our practice of constantly buying from estates, banks, auctions and the public, we offer diamonds and gemstones at very favorably discounted prices. We are always seeking and buying estate jewelry – especially pieces from Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, David Webb, Georg Jensen, watches from Rolex, Constantin Vacheron, Piaget, Patek Philippe, vintage pocket watches, Victorian jewelry, cameos, art deco and art noveau jewelry, etc. We currently offer a large inventory of formerly owned Rolex watches.
In the early 90’s GCCG opened its auction gallery. This was implemented to bring intelligent buyers and sellers of rare coins, diamonds, estate jewelry, fine art, stamps and all quality collectibles together. We now have our own state-of-the-art auction gallery located adjacent to our main store. Gulfcoast is one of the few galleries with the ability to hold an in-house auction and be simultaneously live on the Internet through eBay. This gives our consignors access to an enormous multinational market of buyers.
Our marketing efforts bring our consignors the highest possible prices for their valuables. We maintain a constantly expanding mailing list of more than 17,000 names and advertise aggressively in Lee, Charlotte and Collier counties. We have an experienced research staff and full appraisal services by members of the International Society of Appraisers (I.S.A.) With 30 years experience in the business, Gulfcoast Coin & Jewelry offers an exciting marketplace to the southwest Florida population.
